Century close in Afganistan...................For What?

by wisty8golf @ 2008-05-26 - 21:40:46

I have just heard on the BBC News that another British soldier has just been killed in Afganistan. This is the 97th British fatality since the hostilities began.
Well, Labour Government, you are close to achieving an
unwanted century. And for what?
I wish someone could explain to me, in words of one syllable, why are we there ? In Iraq it was WoMD, that were capable of reaching our shores in 25 minutes and we all know what a load of b****cks that turned out to be. So what is the threat from Afganistan ?
The days of the British Empire are over...we must stop thinking we are the worlds greatest police force and start looking after our own. The Government seem to think that they can subdue the Taliban.....you have got to be joking. They can't even control the knife carrying teenagers in our own urban centres.More people are being killed in Iraq than ever died under Sadaam.
Pull the troops out of Iraq and Afganistan tomorrow.
If this is a democracy put it to the vote now.
We can find better use for the £Billions that are being spent "keeping the peace" and killing our brave soldiers.
Blair and Brown...how many lives will you have on you conscience ? Tony, if you think the cause is so just, why don't you get your sons to enlist. Given the Freedom of Information Act, how many Labour MP's have son or daughters on active duty in these war zones ?

This is a democracy, but not a true one. We don't make each decision democratically, we democratically elect representatives and they make decisions for us. It's a system I'm happy with as I don't know enough on most issues to be able to make a decision.

In the case of Afghanistan, it was a bad decision that got made for us, and the chief results were that a great deal of their infrastructure was destroyed and it became a hotbed of terrorism.

It would be very colonial of us to break their country and then just leave. The work there needs finishing ASAP and then we need to pull out.

Iraq is different: I'd support pulling out of there right now. They have their own elected government and should be able to fix their own problems now.

I agree with withdrawal from Iraq.Afghanistan?

Do we really want the Taliban to regain power.Trust me they are barbarians. They will take that country back to the Dark Ages. The sad thing is that Blair should have srayed out of the Iraq operation and committed himself to fighting the Taliban like Canada.
