Give the Credit Card some credit

by wisty8golf @ 2008-05-19 - 13:07:43

The credit card has had a bad press in recent months with people running up hugh debts on their plastic. If you believe the press you would think that this is the fault of the card. OK....so many card companies have given big limits to credit unworthy holders but by and large the blame is with the overspending individual. It's a bit like telling a bankrupt court that you went on writing out cheques because you had cheques left in your chequebook.
I think most card offer tremendous value. Where else could you pay all your bills, have an certified account at the end of each month, get Air Miles,Nectar Points or M&S vouchers and all at no cost.
Imagine a society without credit cards. Wallets would need to be fatter and cheque books would need to be carried at all times.
Credit Cards were the greatest financial invention of the 20th Century .

I think I'd agree with you on that. I always worry when carrying cash that I might lose it. And you always find that the people with the greatest debt/lack of financial responsibility have 2 or more credit cards which they use to 'borrow from peter to pay paul' as my ma used to say!

You wouldn't eat food you knew was poisoned, so why would you help yourself to debt that could kill you financially?
