Democracy.........................MP's spell it HYPOCRISY

by wisty8golf @ 2008-07-04 - 11:16:04

Yesterday the MPs voted to keep their snouts in the trough and do nothing about their fiddling expenses.
What I fail to understand is how MP's are allowed to vote on subjects that are relevant to them and them only.
Wouldn't we all love to be judge and jury (plus prosecution and defense) on items that effect us.
How can this load of sponging fiddlers look each other in the face and in all truth maintain that their recent decisions re their pay and expenses are justified. Are we totally powerless to do anything about it. Please don't tell me that it can be corrected at the ballot box. They are all fiddlers.
There must be a commission set up to review the whole situation and it must be totally devoid of MP's or bigwigs who owe their high positions to Parliament in the first place.
If you see my hand up that is because I volunteer to sit on it.

Where were you Mrs Blair ?

by wisty8golf @ 2008-07-02 - 11:45:08

Cherie Blair made an impassioned plea yesterday , in the House of Commons. Her fear, with two sons, was the spread of knife attacks on teenagers in The UK. 20 deaths this year alone.
Hello......Where have you been ? You spent almost 10 years in No 10, with the ear of the Prime Minister.
Where were your fears then ? Ask your old man, why he did little or nothing about it across all that time.
Sorry, I forgot.....as the man who took us into conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan he is now very busy acting as a peace envoy for the UN.
I recall an old Charlie Chaplin film where as a glazier he sent a small boy out into the streets to break windows( is that called market preparation)?

At Last.......We get Tough with Mugabe.

by wisty8golf @ 2008-06-30 - 11:46:04

At last the British Government has issued plans on how they intend to get tough with Mugabe.
You might think it is harsh but they have banned us playing cricket against Zimbabwe. Shock...Horror surely this is going too far.......
What other extreme measures can we expect next.
Banning the import of Pheasant tongues in aspic?
Banning holidaymakers from going to Zimbabwe ?
Freezing Magabe's assets in Northern Rock ?

What don't we falsely claim he has weapons of mass destruction , then we can invade Zimbabwe, find none, switch to a regime change , cock it up and then get more people killed than currently.

Please contribute to Abu Qatada's leaving present.

by wisty8golf @ 2008-06-18 - 11:15:51

In another display of meaningless hot air, the Prime Minister said yesterday that it is the duty of the Government..."to protect and promote both our security and our liberty"
Within hours Abu Qatada, Osama bin Laden's right hand man in Europe, was released on bail. In April, the Court of Appeal blocked Qatada's deportation to Jordan on the grounds that he would not get a fair trial there.Well done his Legal Aid lawyers.
I should care. He vomits vitriol from every opening on his body. Hates everything this country stands for ......that is except our laws that protect fanatics who advocate terrorism. And to cap it all,
the restrictions placed on him will cost £500,000 plus he and his family will all be on benefits.
Send him back to Jordan with a note attached "Don't return to Sender"

Tax on Petrol.....Government Bonus ?

by wisty8golf @ 2008-06-05 - 10:30:41

How come the Government stubbornly refuses to remove the planned 2p tax hike on petrol, planned for October, when they have had an unplanned bonus of 5p a litre due to the massive inflation in petrol prices since the beginning of the year.
This motorist in the UK pays more for his petrol that almost anyone else in the world. PM Brown is confirming how little he thinks of Mr Joe Public by continuing to ignore the general concensus of opinion.
When is the last time, he or any of his Cabinet opened their wallets to buy petrol ? There is a fair chance that it was sold by the gallon then, rather than by the litre.

MP's .........................Give them a Rise.

by wisty8golf @ 2008-05-28 - 14:46:24

Regular readers of "My Rants" will think I have gone mad when I state, that for once I agree with the Con Men of Westminster.
Having been found out over their expenses fiddle, they are now advocating a salary increase up to £100,000 per year.
Now the surprise....For once I agree.
However, I would lay down the following conditions.
1) Being an MP must be their one and only job.
2) No highly paid consultancies.
3) They are subject to the same tax laws as every other citizen of the UK. No expenses for second homes,no expenses for travel to and from their place of work (The H of C),they fund their own office and they cannot employ a relative.

I am sure this will lead to a higher standard of MP (but of course would not be difficult) and the demise of the second home when they realise that the cost is comming out of their own pockets. I have never understood why the state funds the purchase of the second home which becomes the property of the MP when he/she leaves Parliament ? If my company did that for me, and I live 35 miles from my place of work,it would be considered a benefit in kind for tax purposes.

Century close in Afganistan...................For What?

by wisty8golf @ 2008-05-26 - 21:40:46

I have just heard on the BBC News that another British soldier has just been killed in Afganistan. This is the 97th British fatality since the hostilities began.
Well, Labour Government, you are close to achieving an
unwanted century. And for what?
I wish someone could explain to me, in words of one syllable, why are we there ? In Iraq it was WoMD, that were capable of reaching our shores in 25 minutes and we all know what a load of b****cks that turned out to be. So what is the threat from Afganistan ?
The days of the British Empire are over...we must stop thinking we are the worlds greatest police force and start looking after our own. The Government seem to think that they can subdue the Taliban.....you have got to be joking. They can't even control the knife carrying teenagers in our own urban centres.More people are being killed in Iraq than ever died under Sadaam.
Pull the troops out of Iraq and Afganistan tomorrow.
If this is a democracy put it to the vote now.
We can find better use for the £Billions that are being spent "keeping the peace" and killing our brave soldiers.
Blair and Brown...how many lives will you have on you conscience ? Tony, if you think the cause is so just, why don't you get your sons to enlist. Given the Freedom of Information Act, how many Labour MP's have son or daughters on active duty in these war zones ?

MPs............................£175 per day and no receipts.

by wisty8golf @ 2008-05-25 - 12:05:49

That fiddling club, known locally as the House of Commons is up in arms that most of their perks are coming under scrutiny.
In a controversal move, they are being offered the chance to switch to a "block grant" of a new daily allowance system of £175 per day to cover the cost of maintaining a second home. By my maths that is £63,875 a year. Aren't they classic. We find out about there £24,000 scam and they want it replace with one worth 3 times as much and no questions asked.

Stabbings Continue.....action, a slap on the wrist.

by wisty8golf @ 2008-05-25 - 11:56:35

It was revealed last week that in 2007, only 7% of the cases of carrying an offensive weapon, namely a knife, ever came to court.
How many youngsters need to be killed before the authorities take action over knife crime. What can possibly be the motive for carrying a knife on the streets of Britain. They surely can't all be butchers or surgeons?

Prince Charles...................Let them eat Flowers.

by wisty8golf @ 2008-05-25 - 11:50:37

The famous quote " Let them eat cake" could now substitute flowers for cake as it is revealed that Prince Charles has, amongst his personal staff a florist,at a salary in excess of £30,000 pa. A spoken said yesterday that the florist was paid out of the Princes private income.
He does not have a private income. Every penny he gets come from the likes of you or me. His vast estates, all earning fortunes in rent were given by the State long ago for allowing the King at the time to sleep with your wife or 14 year old daughter. When the Windors (or was it the Battenburgs, Oh no,thats a cake) arrived from Germany, who did the land belong to.
Certainly not the current "owners"
With the problems that many countries of the world face I can think of a lot better uses of £30,000 than a personal florist.
